An open and honest account of Bruce’s first foray into the life of a vet in the United Kingdom. Today we all know the household name Ben Fogle, but fewer of us know about his superstar, caring dad, the vet. Refreshing and reassuring that a vet understands so well that special bond humans and their pets have.

Part history, teaching the reader about 1970s London and big society’s dogs, part coming of age tale as Bruce starts to learn the importance of interacting with owners as well as their pets and how vet in art science is as much about people skills as it is about knowing how to treat injury and illness. The author’s love for animals is palpable as is his anger at the condition the small puppies in Harrods find themselves in. I didn’t think this book would be for me, but it seems to be the perfect mix of furry friend, social history and self reflection, a smashing read containing something for everyone.
