This book was not at all what I thought it would be from the extract. I thought it would be entertaining and funny, a bit like James Herriot, but I was disappointed. It was written in a much more upmarket sort of way, almost like for the upper classes who would understand the lifestyle a little better.
I appreciate that that may just be me, as I do not have from a big city and it seems a very different style. The language used for sometimes a little highbrow for me but I can accept that for a large number of people this would be a great book to read.
It is a true account and therefore filled with anecdotes that are told in the style of the author, it is a very intricately written and obviously well thought out book, telling of the animals characters as well as the people. It just didn't engage with me as much as I had hoped.
If you want to read about a big city vet, it is definitely the book for you and I'm sure you would enjoy it.
