This was an interesting take on a jane Austen retelling. Rather then following one of the main heroines we instead follow the story of charlotte Lucas, whi was the best friend of Elizabeth Bennett. It was fascinating to read from Charlotte's perspective especially her impressions of our favourite characters from pride and prejudice. The writing was beautiful and suited the historical setting of the novel. We follow charlotte from the events of pride and prejudice and beyond till after she married mr Collins and has a family with him. We also see married life for Elizabeth and jane and how life has been for them since pride and prejudice. Charlotte has had a difficult few years and you really feel sorry for her and what she is going through. The book shows how women were going through similar issues as today in terms of issues with marriages and children.
