Always wary when approaching a book that is a few into a series, but on the other hand that allows the author to get into their stride so the writing may be stronger because of that.

I was intrigued by the cover, stands out from everything else at the moment and was something i was interested in when i saw the previous ones had been on this site (but was before i joined). I like that they are keeping the same style for the series, nothing more annoying than a style of book that changes partway through a series, ruining the collection on the shelf.

The extract jumps us straight into the action (so i guess you need to read the previous books to find out how they got into that situation), on the run across a desert, being chased by someone or thing. There are brief introductions to each character for those of us new to the series, or a good reminder for anyone who had forgotten the previous books, but not over much to alienate the people who are already invested in the series.

I am very intrigued to find out how they got on after the point the extract ended.
