The Spellslinger books are fast becoming one of my favourite fantasy series. Outcasts Kellen, Reichis and Ferius return in the third novel with some surprising characters from previous books making a reappearance which I loved, as (without giving too much away) I felt that their stories need to continue past the book they originally appeared in.
As with the previous two books the story starts with action right from the off. The pace is fast and the writing witty, and of course with plenty of sarcasm from the squirrel cat.
Sebastian de Castell has a wonderful way of bringing the scenes to life and I really felt as if I was there in Cazaran (I'm so sad that it's not a real place). The background and building likelihood of war between the main factions is expanded on and the main characters are starting to build real flesh.
It's really enjoyable to see how they are growing and changing from when we first met, especially Kellen.
I cannot wait until October to read the next in the series!
