Oh, wow!

This is such a valuable commentary on Christmastime during the Second World War. Caroline Taggart collates all these memories from individuals who shared the experience of growing during the war time. It is heartbreaking at times but also so powerfully illuminating. This book has come at an appropriate time, indeed I do feel it is ideal for every history lover.

It is a first-hand account, of course not comprehensive but still so very thoughtful in its attempt to teach readers the world most of us are fortunately able to only hear about.

It's quite something that when I first learned about the war, in many ways I took it as as a story- not properly thinking about the people or the practicalities of the situation. But really, 'how in the world does one celebrate Christmas?' When presents and sugar for cakes are so hard to come by? When families are separated? How can you help a child understand why Christmas is different this year? And for another, five years!

This is written for easy understanding, infused with some Christmas spirit and a ton of warmth. I would definitely wish to read on!
