This is the first book of Acevedo's I've given 5 stars (though admittedly I gave the other two 4 stars, so I'm still quite the fan of her works), and I think that's largely to do with the content, as well as personal preference, so I'm in no way saying it is better than The Poet X or With The Fire On High.

Acevedo excels at writing nuanced stories that are accessible for readers of all ages, and Clap When You Land is no exception. This book primarily discusses family relations, culture and working your way through grief, despite hardships along the way. The bond between the two sisters was incredible, and as always, the prose was stunning.

On a side note, I'd highly recommend listening to the audiobook. Elizabeth Acevedo narrates all of them, and has an amazing, powerful voice. Her prose is quite similar to that of poetry, which I always find is better spoken.
