'Clap when you land' by Elizabeth Acevedo is the second book written in slam poetry; the first one was 'One' by Sarah Crossan, which I highly recommend to anyone.
Anyway, Elizabeth Acevedo's style is something entirely unique and special: with perhaps less words than a book written in prose, she conveys so many more emotions. 'Clap when you land' is about grief, lost sisters, love, hope and secrets, and all of these emotions are portrayed in a fast-paced and heartbreaking narrative.
The language is modern, the words switching from English to Spanish in such a poetic manner, reinforcing the roots of the two narrators.
I absolutely adore how Acevedo was inspired by real-life events, commemorating people that might have been forgotten by the unforgiving media.
I started reading this book on the 19th anniversary of the Twin Towers Attack, and it made the story even more powerful than it could ever be.

A heartbreaking, lovely read that anyone should read at least once in their lives!
I will definitely read other books by Elizabeth Acevedo, as her writing style is simply marvelous.
