I have previously read a DS Cody book and he is another of the fictional detectives with a troubled past - but that's why we read about them. In this book, he, Webley and the rest of the team are investigating a child abduction. The child is taken from her bed while the family sleep. More disturbing is that another child is taken and this time her parents are killed in front of her.
We see the action from both the abductors side, from the children's perspective and from Cody and Webleys' viewpoints.
Nothing is as black and white as it seems, but I had to keep reading as I really needed to know what was going to happen.
In between times we see why DCI Blunt appears to have a soft spot for Cody and whether or not Webley's personal life will sort itself out.
