A new Karin Slaughter book is always exciting, and so I was thrilled to receive an advanced copy to review from Readers First.
The book did not disappoint. As always, the plot was tightly woven, with the leading characters well rounded and developed as the book went along.
Leigh is a successful lawyer who is asked to defend a client accused of rape. When she meets him she realises he is the boy who she and her drug addicted sister Callie babysat for.....and killed his abusive father. But does he know, and will he do anything about it?
The tension built nicely in the book, and there was a good mix of present and flashback scenes which added to the readers understanding of how Leigh and Callie became the adults they currently are.
Alongside the story, there are some strong social messages about society today, which although not overpowering, were certainly present throughout.
Would recommend this book wholeheartedly.
