February’s Son is the second book in the Harry McCoy series and although I have not read the debut novel by Alan Parks, I will definitely be adding it to my TBR list. My only negative point is that despite being a standalone story, it would probably have made the book even more enjoyable if I had read the two books in order and had a chance to understand more about the history of the main character.

Set against the backdrop of 1970's Glasgow, this is a story about drugs, violence and gang warfare. When a young football star is found mutilated, Harry McCoy must hunt down the killer, an infamous gangster while at the same time battle with the demons from his past.

The story is fast-paced, gritty and extremely dark which I was not expecting and the death scenes have some very graphic descriptions which are not for the faint-hearted. If this is what all ‘tartan noir’ books are like then I have definitely been missing out!
