DS Zain Harris was trying to blend in with a group of anonymous protestors. It was Bonfire Night and he really wanted to go home and eat when he gets a call from his boss DCI Kate Riley.

A body is found, which is later identified as a senior civil servant. His death was horrendous and his corpse was later found to have been eaten away by a lethal virus.

There begins the quest to discover what virus it is, to apprehend who is responsible and to prevent any further deaths from what is believed to be a contagious and lethal virus.

We get to know Kate and Zain quite well as they try to solve this case and most of the other characters fit well with the story and seem believable.

I found this book extremely hard to get through and it took me ages to read it and I'm not quite sure why.

The characters are brought to life and there is a sense of panic as they race to find out who the killer is and to find out why and how it was done but somehow it didn't make me feel engrossed in the storyline and in a hurry to finish it.
