I was drawn to this book by its beautiful cover, and it has not disappointed. The pages are also decorated in a way that reminds me of The Little Prince a bit, which kind of matches the simple yet elegant style of writing. The characters are well written, with defined personalities and the right amount of depth for this kind of narrative. A very interesting plot, which keeps you wanting to know more as it guides you through the whimsical scenery of the Bavarian forests. Despite its dark, gothic undertones, Fledgling manages to keep the cozy, magical vibes throughout the whole storyline, making it a perfect book to read in bed or to unwind to after a long day. I must say I was immediately transported to my childhood and the fairytales I used to read. This is perhaps a more mature, sophisticated twist on fairytales, unlike anything you’ve read in a long time.
