There’s a storm coming…..
I really enjoy books aimed at this level of reader. The stories are easy to follow but kids still have unlimited imagination so literary worlds can make anything possible.
There are quite short chapters, which is appropriate for the target reading age, and nice illustrations at the beginning of each chapter that make the transition out of picture books but something more exciting than just having text.
It’s written in first persons narrative which I personally don’t like, but I suppose it helps younger readers to identify strongly with the central character. Being able to express exactly how they feel helps the readers understand the motivations and actions within the story.
There is always an extra level of magic in books which are about books. In a Neverending Story esque pattern the character becomes the reader and the adventure extends beyond the page.
