I liked this story more because it didn't have a 'happily ever after' ending. It felt more real and thought about rather than just pretending that everything would be ok for the characters no matter what happened to them.

I enjoyed the way each of their secrets was revealed one by one and how rather than just telling each other what they were, they insisted on trying to continue to hide them until they were forced to do so otherwise. It was similar to Pretty Little Liars in that respect.

I also appreciated that it emphasised how easy it was for friendships to drift as people grow up but equally how there is often a lot that will keep friendships together if both sides try.

None of the characters were perfect which is always a good start for the book. Each of them made mistakes. The story between Ruby and Murphy felt the most realistic to me about how sometimes even things that you think are supposed to workout and be the happily ever after do not work out that way for any number of reasons.
