This is a classic thriller, both repellent and fascinating. The lead detective, D.I. Monica Kennedy, is determined to track down the murderer or murderers but also torn between her work and lack of time with her young daughter. The story twists and turns with one person being the main suspect then another. Every so often a short chapter will be from the perspective of the murderer or the next victim, as this is a tale of a manic serial killer who began killing decades ago. One of the other main characters is a social worker who is also determined to find a particular boy and the murderer. He works with Monica but at times is also a suspect. You are never quite sure who to trust. A very well woven plot, well worth a read.
