This is the first book in a new crime series by author G R Halliday . His knowledge of police procedure shows and it is a pleasant surprise to have a female detective inspector based in the highlands of Scotland . He has based the book around his own experiences and local habitat which is a refreshing change . The main storyline also include a social worker Michael whose teenager client Nicol has vanished as several bodies of boys around the same age emerge it becomes a race with time to find Nicol before the abductor does. The main characters are likeable but complex .They are not perfect and all have pasts and secrets which are not all forthcoming so are obviously being held back for other books in the series so bring on more.
