Slow but a good story

I liked the story and think it would make a great movie, but it was a little slow going and I do feel like I have been reading it forever.

It starts with the idyllic scene of Agneta Broman waving off her daughters and grandchildren, and then receiving a telephone call. She then calmly gets a gun, shoots her husband in the head and leaves the house.

This starts an intricate story of Cold War espionage, unexpected twists and turns and misremembered childhoods.

The case isn't being investigated by vice cop Sara, but as a childhood friend of the Broman family she investigates on the side. This was one aspect of the book I didn't get. Why the author didn't have her as a homicide cop - as a vice cop she hardly ever seems to be at work and is instead investigating this Cold War spy ring which had been reactivated.

The story was great, but the author seemed to spend a lot of time getting to the point.
