This is quite an enjoyable read overall. It starts well and we are introduced to a normal Irish family and their normal problems - father has lost his job; mother is away from home a lot in a high powered job; 16 year old twins are causing the problems that adolescents cause and grandmother Millie is in trouble with the police for shoplifting. So far so promising, a bit like Grown Ups but with more sketchily drawn characters.

It goes along interestingly as the characters try to work their way through their problems but then the plot thins rather than thickens and we descend into farce. Millie who is supposed to be 83, drugs someone (no spoilers) escapes from somewhere, rides a stolen bike for miles in the dark and goes off on a caper with the 16 year old daughter. I have a lot of elderly aunts and I know that no matter how healthy and spry they might be at 83 none of them or their friends would be capable of doing all the things Millie does, at least not without prolonged periods of bed rest inbetween the antics!
