Liked the mystery, but not the self-help element!

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I really did struggle with this one.

Twenty years ago, Abigails' brother went missing without a trace the day before her 16th birthday. Shortly after his disappearance, Abi started to receive chapters from a self-help book in the mail but has zero ideas as to who is sending them. Now, two decades on, Abi gets an invite to attend a trip on which she will learn the truth and hopefully get the answers that she has spent her life searching for.

Had I initially realised just how much of this was written in the form of an actual self-help book, then I don't think I would have picked the book up in the first place. I found this particular aspect of the story to be mega dull and the message that the author was trying to relay was lost on me.
This is a fairly chunky book, but a lot of it could have been cut down with some careful editing as it came across as insignificant or like waffle.
I did enjoy the mystery aspect behind the brother's disappearance, and I must admit that it was really the only reason why I kept on reading to the end!

Overall, I feel that I was definitely not the intended audience for this one. If you enjoy self-help books, then this may be a better fit for you than it was for me!

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and Readers First for sending me a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
