I love a good spy story, something along the lines of John le Carre, Len Deighton or Eric Ambler, and I’m particularly fond of a Cold War era setting, so Hammer to Fall immediately piqued my interest. I really like the set up with the smuggling and the double crossing – not even peanut butter is a safe commodity to deal with – and I’m keen to know what happens to the operation from here on in. I haven’t read either of the previous Joe Wilderness thrillers, but I like what I’ve seen of the character (and the others) so far. I’m intrigued to know how he is going to move from the dodgy business of smuggling back into the murky world of espionage.
