Feels like talking to a friend
The style of writing feels like talking to a friend and reminiscent of the book ‘The Last Tang Standing’ with the switch between prose and podcast format. I think it is an interesting format and stands apart from other books but it is not quite to my personal liking so may affect how much I enjoy the book hence why I rated it 3 stars although I feel like it is a 3.5.
I enjoy reading about different cultures and also diaspora and the South Asian community of Canada is one I have not yet read about. I like the use of colloquial language within the book and I can see how it is great representation for members of the South Asian community.
One point, I am not sure if this is marketed as YA or the ‘twenty-something’ age range as it is not entirely clear from the excerpt given.
I am intrigued to see where Hana’s story goes and would like to add to my to be read list.
