The book's cover makes sense after you have started reading the book - it didn't immediately draw me to it. Initially the style didn't impress me, but the more I read the more I was fascinated and could not stop reading it, and was disappointed when I came to the end of the section. I must now go out and buy this book! It is a refreshing experience to read this story of a life of second generation Asian Canadians, with a cast of characters that are subtly but powerfully portrayed that they are totally believable. Sometimes books thrust modern media, twitter, podcasts, and so on at you almost aggressively. In this excellent book, it is just the everyday necessary part of the daily life and the primary form of communication. It is good that the Indian terms that pop up now and then, like the endearments from her mother, and the menu items in the restaurant, are also given in English without being intrusive. I like this book.
