From the first impression 'Home Truths' appears to be a heartbreaking story of domestic despair. After having the perfect family life one thing after another goes wrong for the min character Angie with seemingly no hope of redemption.

The novel jumps straight into the action with the worst moment the family have had to suffer and continues to fill in the context with a series of flashbacks. The descriptive language used is excellent and really appeals to the readers sense of empathy.

So many questions have been raised ... what led to her son's brainwashing? Where is her son now? Did he have anything to do with his father's death? How will the rest of the family cope with their increasing problems? The characterisation makes each member of the family seem real and easy to relate to which is why it is so important to keep reading and hope they succeed!
