Need to warm to it a little
From my first impression of this book, I thought that I was reading a few chapters into the book and had missed a few pages, as things were dwelled on that I as a reader did not know (or maybe know enough) about. As I read further I noticed how the novel had more of a diary entry feel, though this did work in its favour as I was able to relate a little more to the protagonist.
You definitely get the impression that the protagonist is unsure of her place in the world, and maybe the universe, from the way she interacts with other characters and her internal thoughts. It will be interesting to see the way this develops, and I actually would be more interested if some sort of sci-fi or fantasy element was brought in - the novel feels like it needs a little kick.
It definitely feels like it is aimed at a younger audience - not young adults, but rather older children and pre-teens (10-12 years old).
