I wasn't sure about this book at first, but I read it because I had won it. The book seemed to have two distinct sections. One was the author, telling his life and career story. The other, was the history of organ transplanting. His career history was so interesting. At times, I couldn't put the book down. It was happy, sad, gory and inspiring. It was a great insight, to a man who followed his dream. I would have been prepared to put my life in his hands, if necessary. The history part of the book was most enlightening. He described operations of the heart, lungs, liver and kidneys. There was intricate details of operations, many of which were ultimately unsuccessful. Some organ recipients lived for days, weeks or even months. Some lived on to have a better quality of life. I can't rate this book highly enough. I am so glad I won it. Congratulations to great surgeon and author.
