It's worth pointing out that you do have to suspend your disbelief with this book, as I don't see the premise as something that would feasibly happen (as in for a interviewee to give an incredibly long and detailed account of something which would be easily explained quite briefly) but nevertheless it is fantastic. The split narrative of having snippets from the interviews of Amir's parents and sister keep you gripped and involved. The descriptions are occasionally long-winded and at first the writing in the past tense was a little clumsy. However, it's a brilliant story with likeable, and not so likeable, characters who you really connect with. It covers racism, sexuality and religious and cultural beliefs in a informative yet emotive way. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a light read that still has some real grit.
