This is based on a true story. Amir is a young man who is gay and in his first relationship at school and who wants to come out to his family as gay; he doesn’t know how his family will respond and his worries are more so because of his religion. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book but, it really surpassed my expectations. It’s written in such a flowing style, with viewpoints from all of Amir’s family in a very candid way. It really gave me an insight into the feelings of a young, gay, Muslim man and the hurdles he feels he faced in his daily life. I found this book highly enlightening and very insightful. The emotions are very open and honest and it’s very much a recommended read.
