Well written and totally engaging YA story about Muslim boy and his journey of coming-out as a gay. It was honest, it was funny and it was very easy to relate to. I loved that it was told in multiple POV’s interrogation scenes as it gave me a deeper insight into a Muslim family’s acceptance of LGBTQ+ idea and how each family member deals and feels about Amir being a gay.
Amir Azadi is eighteen years old, gay and Muslim. He is worried about coming out to his family, convinced that they will disown him. Hoping to avoid the issue for as long as possible he plans to go to college far away and live his real life there. Unfortunately for Amir, someone in his high school has decided to blackmail him (basically: "Pay up or I'll tell your parents that you are gay"). Amir deals with this situation by running away, ending up in Rome, where he spends the summer finding himself. I genuinely loved this book, such a lovely and funny piece of YA fiction. It follows Amir's journey of acceptance, from his more traditional family all the way to new friends in Rome.
