This book follows predominantly just over a month in the life of Amir, an American Muslim who is gay.
Scared to tell his parents, and being blackmailed by someone in his school year, he runs away, first to New York, then to Rome, where he meets a community of gay men who open up a whole new world to him.
Back home his sister finds out, then tells his parents he is gay...so they all go to Rome to bring him home.
On the plane home, there is an argument which leads to them all being interrogated on suspicion of terrorism.
The book switches between the time in Rome, and the various interview rooms, which was a little jarring at times. Some of the interview sections were also very short, which felt at odds with the more fluid parts of the story.
Overall though, I enjoyed it, thanks to Readers First for an advance copy.
