I really wanted to absolutely love this. I loved the premise and I enjoyed many of the characters but 2 prominent characters really let me down and a less prominent character was just an obnoxious bit*h. I'll get to my issues with them in a moment because it's going to feel like I should have just given this 1* if I led with that.

Their chemistry felt real and I'm very happy about that. They were childhood sweethearts just never at the same place at the same time and mis-communicating when they could have been together. It's a common plot line but I still love it. I love happily ever afters and we do get that, thankfully; it was a close call. I like that Lydia dealt with what a lot of us nearly or just turning 30-year old single women have had to deal with. She just had to decide if giving up her job to move north was acceptable - a couple years ago I had the same dilemma but giving up job to move to a new country. So I very much appreciated that she was a strong enough woman to consider the implications of her choices and realise that it's crazy to abandon all career dreams. I like that she wanted time to consider how to make both things work. She's been in love with him for decades, what's a few more months to figure things out properly? I enjoyed their love story and the supporting cast has some lovely personalities and their own challenges which were nice respite from Danny's antics. I liked seeing how their story lines wrapped up, not just the leading lady and main man.

SPOILERS FROM HERE

So I would say it was about 4* for how much I enjoyed the plot and supporting characters, but we're deducting about a star for those problem characters I mentioned now discussed below.

Problem character 1 - Danny - the groom to be. He flies off the handle because almost a decade earlier Lydia drunkenly did something and he can't possible "trust" her but he's allowed to have permitted the same something from obnoxious bit*h mere months ago? Double standards much??? He told more "lies" an his were more severe/recent and she's the one who can't be trusted? Way to make me not like the main man.

Problem character 2 - Linda - Lydia's mum. Let's condone infidelity by just pretending the family of the man who is having an affair with you doesn't even exist. If I can't see it, it's not real, yeah? Puh-lease. She thinks it's okay because she had an identity crisis when her husband left her so it's totally okay to keep that vicious cycle going by potentially giving affair boy's wife the same misery? Sounds fair. NOT!

Obnoxious bit*h - ugh, the last bit meant to redeem her does not even come close to making up for the shiz she did. Girl, you are a married and heavily pregnant woman. And Danny was clearly besotted with Lydia. You do not get to treating Lydia like that because you can't deal with the choices you made. Being a homewrecker because you're unhappy is not okay. See my issues with Linda, above.
