From the first glance at the synopsis, this seemed like a book I’d want to read. I’m half Iranian and, though I can say I know as much about Iran and it’s neighoburs as I’d like to, I’m often dismayed at the negative way it’s portrayed and judged around the world. There are of course reasons for some of the misconceptions but I was thrilled to read a book that’s shaping up to be an honest look at that part of the world. Emma obviously understands what makes countries like Syria, Turkey and Iraq so rich in culture and heritage, and speaks of her love for many years of the area. The book looks like it will be a really frank and interesting look at how the trouble that plagued countries like Iraq came to be, and the rise of Isis etc. I for one am very excited to read more!
