I adored Ava Dellaira’s first book Love Letters To The Dead and I’ve been anticipating a new book from her since and now we have this! In Search Of, my copy just says In Search Of however I believe it’s now In Search Of Us instead.

This book is done from two points of view, one in the past as Marilyn and one in the present Angie, Marilyn’s daughter. We mainly read this story from Marilyn’s point of view which gives the most to the plot of this story. We read it from when they’re both 17 years old. Angie is mixed race and wants answers about her dad, she discovers her mother has been lying to her and runs off to Los Angeles to find her mysterious uncle and maybe even her father, she wants to find out more about who she really is. Marilyn at 17 has just moved the Los Angeles with her mother to move in the with her uncle to pursue her mothers dream for her, becoming a successful actress but Marilyn is counting down the days it takes until she can finally escape and go to college and then she meets James, the boy who lives downstairs.

It was a book that with two different timelines, were easy to follow! Going into this book I wasn’t 100% sure how I was going to feel about the two timelines but it worked perfectly.

This is such a beautifully written story, for the second half of this book I had to hold back the tears because I was going to end up a blubbering mess! It was such a good read and I highly recommend it, I finished it in a day, I just flew through it! Contemporary books aren’t my usual go to books to read as I read a lot more fantasy books, but I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed by a contemporary I have to say!

This was a perfect, beautiful and emotional read.
