Was it a page-turner? Totally. It took me some time to get into the book because I felt like there was something missing. Or – better – that I was missing something. Turns out I was right and – even though this can be read as a stand-alone novel – it is the second book featuring Nora Watts and there is a lot of backstory that is hinted at.
Having read the synopsis, did the book meet my expectations? I was somehow expecting a ‘simpler’ book, while a lot of issues pop up in this novel – from gang crime to politics and everything in-between. It’s not the kind of book I’m used to reading but I did enjoy it very much. In fact, I want more!
Did I like the ending? [no spoilers] Yes, and it suits both who wants to read this book as a stand-alone or as part of a series.
Three words to describe it. Suspenseful. Thrilling. Fast-paced.
Do I like the cover? Yes, it suits the mood of the novel well. Couldn’t do it better, in fact.
Have I read any other books by the same author? No, this is the first of her books I read and I definitely want to catch up with the first in the Nora Watts series, while I wait for the third.
Will I be recommending this book? Yes, especially to people who are good at following different narrative strands and enjoy a little conspiracy. The characters are well-built too and very much likeable with all their weaknesses.
