The title of this book " It Couldn't Happen Here " was what the mothers of Glass Lake believed. As the story progresses the reader soon sees just how wrong they were.Everyone has a secret. Some are quickly revealed but others are only known at the very end of the book. The story revolves around the school production of the Wizard of Oz which this year is to be seen on television. There is great competition among the mothers to get a prominent role for their son or daughter. A body discovered in water by the school threatens to disrupt everything. I like the way the story begins with the discovery of the body and then moves back and forward in time gradually revealing more about the relationships and power struggles between the characters. It was a book that once I had started I just wanted to keep on reading. It raised some serious issues but also some light-hearted ones.
