I really enjoyed the TV series of Home Fires and was thrilled to discover that this book carried on with the story where the TV series was so abruptly ended. We join the ladies of the WI in Great Paxford at the wedding of Nick and Teresa and outside a spitfire has just crashed into the house of Pat and Bob along with the Campbell house and doctors surgery. Miriam from the butchers shop has just given birth to a baby daughter Vivian and together with her husband Bryn and Joyce Cameron they are caught up in the aftermath of the crash. We meet all of the familiar characters and we find out what has happened to Pat and her affair with Marek. Is the wedding of Teresa and Nick Lucas all it seems to be? Frances Burden with her husband's son Noah, can she accept him into her life? Mrs Talbot with her crusade on the "trekkies" escaping the nightly bombing in Liverpool and the Campbell family of Erica, Will, Kate and Laura have to face the most upsetting time of their lives.You will laugh, cry and be mad with the characters of Great Paxford but it was so great to catchup with them all again and I really hope that more books are planned as I can't wait to read more. A great 5* read.
