I thought this book was absolutely brilliant. I've always been a fan of thrillers but I've never read a book about a naval mystery before. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The book moves between events in the past and events taking place now, revealing things slowly to add more to the plot each time. I didn't really have much historical knowledge of the time period in the past but that didn't matter as what was needed was explained clearly in an interesting way without detracting from the rest of the story.
After reading this book, I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for other books by Michael Ridpath and will look forward to reading them as well. Definitely an excellent thriller writer.
