This was a read that I was a bit sceptical about approaching and giving it a go, and one I thought I would really struggle with. It's not my usual go to read but I love me a thriller, however, this wasn't quite it and not so much thriller vibes as it's portrayed but I was surprised and relieved that it wasn't quite the struggle as first thought.

I did enjoy the family drama aspects and that kept me going with a good plot, but the initial build up was slow and full of details that didn't really grip me although I was pleased that it wasn't quite the overall war book. I did actually enjoy the flashbacks to the 80s and the Cold War, it had far more to offer than branded 'war books' especially as the cover is quite deceiving. I just felt this was probably going to be enjoyed far more by someone who has an interest or some sort of mild connection to this story.
