This was gripping from the start when we're taken back to 1983, the deep beneath the Norwegian Sea when the USS Alexander Hamilton sub gets the go-ahead to launch nuclear missiles onto European soil. But Bill Guth is not certain it's a genuine command.

Thirty-six years years later Bill Guth, his family and son-in-law become involved in the murder of a historian questioning what had happened all those years ago.

Well written, good characterisation, this was a thriller that kept my attention from start to end. A couple of times it felt like there were too many people having discussions about what the journalist was after, what had actually happened on board the Alexander Hamilton, who the likely murderer was, back then and now. That aside it was enjoyable, and I would certainly read another by Ridpath.
