I love a thriller. However, it is a genre I have neglected lately due to my current obsession with historical fiction and fantasy reads. But thrillers were always my go to genre a few years ago. After reading Little Secrets, I am now wanting to get back into them once again. Especially since I loved this book! It is a dark, powerful and moving story that is all about lust, betrayal and obsession.

One of the main characters, Marin, is a mum of a young boy, who she tragically loses when she is out one day shopping. This has to be every parents worst nightmare! I felt reading through her initial panic and pain so hard to read. I know I would react the exact same way if it was one of my kids that was taken. The author describes the character’s feelings so well making it come across raw and heavy, like it is happening to someone you know. The emotional turmoil Marin goes through trying to live without knowing what has happened to her boy is completely heart wrenching. Then throw in her husband having an affair! I felt so sorry for her.

From this point the book really takes off, with many secrets unravelling throughout the chapters, and resulting in a shocking conclusion. My heart was racing throughout! Partly because I was getting anxious about some of Marin’s decisions and my major anger towards her husband, and also because it is a tense, fast paced and twisty read! I found this book impossible to put down.

I recommend this to anyone who likes a thriller with a bit more substance to the characters than just mainly focusing on the main plot
