This is a lovely, easy read about the world of dog walking. In London's No 1 Dog Walking Agency Kate MacDougall tells her readers chapter by chapter and dog by dog of the challenges and joys of her first seven years as a professional dog walker. The author started her agency when she left her job at Sothebys after yet another breakage and the realisation that this really wasn't her ideal job. Starting any business is never easy and professional dog walking was in its infancy in 2006. Fortunately Kate persevered with building her business with all the clients and their dogs each and every one, both clients and dogs, with their own unique personality and has written a fascinating account of these early years, mostly hilarious but some sad moments too. As well as building her business, during these years Kate gets her own dog, marries, has a family and eventually leaves London to live in the country where she adds to her family. Throughout this time her partner/husband is constantly supportive despite claiming not to like dogs while Kate's mother is forever asking her when she's going to get a proper job. Luckily she found someone to take over most of the running of the business so the business could continue despite Kate and her family leaving the city. This book came along at exactly the right time for me as I was recovering from a spell in hospital and this was the perfect light-hearted, easy read to curl up in the chair with although equally suitable for reading when relaxing on a sun lounger with a glass of wine.
