This is the story of how Kate, fed up of her snoozy back office job, dealing with antiques at Sotheby's, quit her job and found herself setting up her own business walking dogs, despite the concerns of those around her. 𝘓𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘴 𝘕𝘰. 1 𝘋𝘰𝘨-𝘞𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘺 is born and Kate talks us through her next 9 years and the dogs (and people) she meets along the way. Along with the highs, the lows and everything in-between.
I don't think I have enjoyed a non fiction book, quite as much as I did this one! It may have something to do with all the canine delights and the conversationalist tone in which it was written. I loved learning about how Kate set up her business starting from scratch, the mistakes that were made (Meet and Bone) alongside the many doggy triumphs. But what I loved most, of course, was meeting the dogs and learning of the ridiculous requests of their owners, seriously I had to giggle at a few of them!
There was Winston, a gorgeous chocolate lab who wasn't allowed to get muddy, ever. Stanley a sensitive rescue mutt who refused to walk unless you brought along a tasty treat and Zeus a rhodesian ridgeback who was insured for over one million dollars and managed to escape whilst out walking to name a few - Kate introduced them all one walk at a time, including her own precious pooch Mabel, a jack russell who's charms her dog-agnostic boyfriend Finlay, fell for in the end.
Heartwarming, witty and absolutely full of doggy chaos, Kate's very own coming-of-age story was a joy to read, proving what I've always known to be true - that dogs really are the BEST! Dog lovers add this to your tbrs, you won't regret it.
