It was ok. Not great, not awful just ok. I love the TV show The Durrells which of course attracted me to the book. There are several times, in each chapter, they are mentioned, but it’s only in as far as visiting a location where they lived. Penny, the main character doesn’t actually get into any of the properties but draws inspiration from the location. I do love the romantic notion of sketching and painting a beautiful scenery instead of just a quick click of a camera phone. It sounds so peaceful and idyllic, and unfortunately I little boring. The young, pretty Penny has just broken off an engagement and lost her Father who was ill. To take a month off and visit Corfu on her own seems very courageous to me. However she hooks in with some students, working abroad for the summer, and spends a lot of time in a small bar/restaurant where she becomes very close to the female owner who’s having a rough time at the minute. Of course there’s a love interest but there’s no conclusion. The end left me feeling quite flat unfortunately.
