What a brilliant start - I now want to read it all!
I wasn't sure what to expect, but whatever it was, this first look exceeded those expectations. It is told from the point of view of Penny and she is brought to life even in this short read. The Prologue is a moving description of her experiences in a hospice, visiting her terminally ill father and sharing their love of the Durrells and dreams of visiting Corfu.....
Following the death of her father, Penny decides to follow those dreams and visit Corfu, planning to stay there for a month. I really liked how the secondary characters are introduced and portrayed as well as how the ambience of the setting are shared in a manner which reawakened my own dreams of visiting this iconic island. The interactions are described in a manner which brought them to life in my imagination and I now can't wait to read more of the story to discover just what happens to Penny on this pilgrimage to the Durrells and Corfu.
