Loreticus by J.B. Lucas is the first book in a triology
Loreticus is a Spymaster who is involved in political intrigue surrounding the Emperor. So far, so good.
Unfortunately, the book seems to plod along and whilst it is well written and has an excellent basis for a really good story it seems to lack some dynamism with it never getting out of second gear.
The setting and the characters are well described and have their own personalities.

So the big question is whether I would read the second book and this is where I am unsure. I want to give the author another go as hopefully book one was the groundwork and book two will move the story along hopefully at a pace.
