I wasn’t too sure what to think of this book when I read the blurb, was it a thriller? Mystery? Would I be hooked or quite frankly, bored? But I picked it up nonetheless. Honestly, I think I just like books about books and the cover is lovely. (I know, I know. You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover - but I definitely do! And I’m so glad I did with this)
I absolutely loved this book. Although the storyline isn’t exactly gripping to start with - I can’t deny that I was intrigued and would really struggle to put it down.
The lay-out was a mixture of past a present; determined by the chapter that you were reading - which helped you get a real feel of the story. Instead of of recounting memories, you got to read the past as if it was happening right then - which saves a lot of confusion that can happen with different flows.
I loved the character of Loveday, the name alone was amazing. I liked how she indulged in books and surround herself with them like they are capable of being a safety net. I felt like I could relate to that. The first lines of books that she’d chose to tattoo across her body made me want to pay more attention to the importance of the start of a book; I also kinda wanted to go back and look at every first line of a book I’ve ever read and see how the story unfolds within it.
Also, Lovedays problems with trust, love, social situations, people and being a recluse from society in general made me love her character all that much more; knowing that there were parts some could relate to is what creates such a strong connection between reader and book. And I just couldn’t help but fall in love.
There are so many strong topics covered throughout this book, so, it was refreshing to read something good but that also touched heavily on important things. I think it’s easy to get so lost in a book that we forget about reality, I like that this book touched on both fiction and what can/does happen in real life.
All main characters in this book have such strong personalities; book-worm, introvert, strong minded, jolly, protector, victim, lover, bully and all of these traits are presented amazingly. You can sense them throughout, the characters have a very solid foundation and I think it helped with the flow of the book.
To conclude, I LOOOOOVED THIS BOOK. Will be recommending to all and any who love books about books and love and life or just those who want to cry, be happy and even have their heart broken.
