Throughout this book, Kate, the main character, hinted at a letter and it's explosive contents. This was maintained throughout and the impression I got was that it was going to blow my mind.
The story is of two people, Kate and Paul, who are both a little bit anti-social and who become best friends. They don't have any other friends. Kate's family are well off and aloof. Her mother married a much older man very young and doesn't know how to be a mother preferring to spend her time with her London set. When she is back home in Somerset she spends a lot of time in bed. Kate's father is much older and often away on business.
In contrast Paul's parents are loud and welcoming. Kate becomes part of the family, preferring to spend her time with them where possible. They make a pact when they are quite young that, if they are both still single, they will marry each other when they are 30.
The story flicks between the past and November 2012, where they have been married 10 years and Kate is waiting until they have dinner for their anniversary to confront Paul about the contents of the letter.
Overall it's the story of two best friends and how friendships ebb and flow, I personally was a bit disappointed with the conclusion, but it was a nice read.
