Madame Burova is a story that spans two generations. At the heart of it is Imelda Burova, a tarot reader who has spent a lifetime keeping people’s secrets. Starting in the 1970s we meet Imelda as she is finding her way through life, work, friendships and love. We then jump forward to the modern day, where Billie receives a mysterious message that leads her to Imelda’s door.

I found the book heartwarming and charming and an easy read. The characters were full and I enjoyed reading about their lives. I sadly felt however that the plot was a little lacking at times and particularly in towards the end I was struggling to find the motivation to continue.

Overall I would recommend this book for someone that wants a fairly lighthearted summer read. I haven’t read any of Ruth Hogans other books but I will definitely be interested in doing so now.
