Madame Burova, clairvoyant and palmist has a secret that she has kept for 50 years and it’s now time to do something about those two brown envelopes. Back in 1972 ( Biba... I remember it well) we meet a, somewhat confusing, but mostly sympathetic collection of people who are all going to be connected through a local faux Butlins holiday camp. Seems like many secrets are to be spilled, some will thrive and some won’t. Meanwhile in the present day divorcee Billie, looking forward to a fresh start, receives one of those two brown envelopes.... Madame Burova, as it turns out, is a purveyor of really ( and unrealistically) precise predictions but sadly not able to see what is to befall her and Her One Great Love. The book touches on discrimination in its several forms but not in a way sufficient to disturb the froth . The mystery wasn’t very mysterious and I’m afraid it was all quite forgettable but passed away a couple of hours well enough
