I really enjoyed reading "Max Counts to a Million". It tells the story of the Covid-19 lockdown from the perspective of nine year old boy Max. I actually had caught covid when I was reading it and thought it might be a bit soon to be revisiting lockdown, but actually the book was really good! Although this is a fiction book, I feel it will be a good story for current younger readers, who can see how their own lockdown experiences compared and also for readers in the future to get a child’s perspective on the experience and to learn about the pandemic. Having a relative of a similar age, I thought the author really captured the perspective of a nine year old boy very well, including what made him worried and what he did to cope. The book is simply written and I enjoyed how at times Max went off on a little tangent. I would definitely try other books by this author.
